Discover How We Can Help

Lower Extremity

Hip Disarticulation

A hip disarticulation procedure is the surgical removal of the femur (thigh bone) from the pelvic girdle (hip). The entire lower extremity (leg) is separated from the body without cutting through the bones.

Knee Disarticulation

The knee disarticulation procedure is a surgical procedure in which the tibia and fibula (shin bones) are separated from the femur (thigh bone). No bones are cut in this procedure, which usually allows the patient to bear some weight on the end of the femur (thigh bone).

Partial Foot

A partial foot amputation is the surgical removal of any portion of the foot or toes.

Symes

Ankle Disarticulation

A Symes amputation is an ankle disarticulation surgery in which the tibia and fibula (shin bones) are separated from the talus (ankle bone). Because this surgery does not cut through the bones, most patients will have end bearing capabilities.

Transfemoral

Above Knee

The transfemoral (above knee) amputation is a surgical procedure in which a portion of the femur (thigh bone) is cut and removed from the body along with the lower leg and foot.

Transtibial

Below Knee

The transtibial (below knee) amputation is a surgical procedure in which a portion of the tibia and fibula (shin bones) is cut and removed from the body along with the foot.

Upper Extremity

Partial Hand

A partial hand amputation is the surgical removal of any portion of the palm or fingers.

Shoulder Disarticulation

A shoulder disarticulation procedure is the surgical separation of the entire arm from the shoulder joint. In this surgery the humerus (upper arm bone) and the entire arm are removed from the scapula (shoulder blade) and clavicle (collar bone). No bones are cut during this surgery.

Transhumeral

Upper Arm Bone

A transhumeral amputation is a surgical procedure in which the humerus (upper arm bone) is cut and a portion of it, along with the rest of the arm, is removed from the body.

Transradial

Lower Arm Bone

A transradial amputation is a surgical procedure in which the radius and ulna (bones of the lower arm) are cut, and the area below the elbow is removed.

Wrist Disarticulation

A wrist disarticulation procedure is the surgical separation of the wrist and hand from the arm. In this surgery, the radius and ulna (lower arm bones) are separated from the carpal (wrist) bones. No bones are cut during this procedure.
